Nestled between Sault Ste Marie and Sudbury is a 109 hectare provincial park sitting on the River aux Sables – this is Chutes Provincial Park. Chutes is a beautiful provincial park with extremely roomy sites that can fit the biggest of RV’s. We camped in Seven Sisters Circle in spot 44 and loved how much space we had! Keno got to run around on her rope and had so much space. Very rarely do we pull into a provincial park that each of the sites are double or triple wide but here at Chutes Provincial Park that is the norm.
Not all of the sites are incredibly private but definitely have enough foliage to break up the sites. This quiet campground is the perfect place to stop as you explore Highway 17 or to stay for several nights or even weeks and enjoy the peace and quiet that is Chutes Provincial Park. Over half of the campsites are electrical, and all have a fire put and picnic table. There is vault toilets, water taps and comfort stations located throughout the park. Located close to the town of Massey you will be able to find all your amenities that you will need during your stay.
One of the highlights of Chutes Provincial Park is the beautiful waterfall and the seven sister rapids. There is a large parking lot and a rocky beach where you can spend the day playing in the water or even tubing down the rapids. If you are looking to explore outside of Chutes it is only a short hour and a half drive to Manitoulin Island.
One of the other great features about the park is there is a large off leash dog park for your pooch to run and stretch their legs. This is something we don’t often see in provincial parks and we wish there was more of! There is a big difference walking your dog and letting them run in an off leash park. Keno had a blast running around here and was the perfect way to tire her out before a long drive the next day!
Although, we only spent a night at Chutes it was the perfect place to end our final night of our long Northern Ontario road trip. We hope you will enjoy your visit to Chutes as much as we did!
